PNB Holdings Corporation (PHC) used Earth Hour 2026 not only to support a global environmental movement, but also to highlight a wider sustainability agenda embedded in its daily operations.
As part of the annual observance, PHC switched off nonessential lighting across its major properties in Makati and Pasay, including the PNB Makati Center along Ayala Avenue. The coordinated effort reflected the company’s continued participation in Earth Hour while reinforcing energy efficiency practices already being implemented across its facilities.
For PHC, the observance serves as more than a symbolic gesture. It provides a dedicated moment to assess consumption patterns, validate energy-saving strategies, and strengthen operational measures that remain in place throughout the year.
Sustainability initiatives at PHC extend beyond energy conservation. The company has also been expanding its waste management efforts through the EcoStation, a recycling program launched in partnership with Rezbin, a multi-awarded, tech-enabled waste management firm. Designed around a behavior-based and rewards-driven system, the initiative aims to make recycling more convenient and consistent for building users.
Introduced at the PNB Makati Center in November 2025, the EcoStation has already diverted more than 17,000 recyclable deposits from landfills. Encouraged by the program’s early results, PHC rolled out the initiative as well at the PNB Financial Center in Pasay City, widening its environmental impact across more of its properties.
At the same time, the company has been pursuing practical upgrades to improve overall efficiency in building operations. PHC has adjusted equipment schedules based on actual occupancy, helping ensure that pumps, elevators, and chillers operate only when necessary. It has also continued investing in LED lighting, variable frequency drives, and inverter-type systems to help reduce energy use without disrupting tenant comfort and service reliability.
Water management is another area where PHC has sought measurable gains. Through better system tuning and operational improvements, the company has enhanced water efficiency across its properties. At the PNB Financial Center, its onsite sewage treatment plant supports the reuse of treated water for landscape irrigation, contributing to conservation targets while helping the site comply with environmental standards.
By pairing Earth Hour participation with concrete operational programs, PHC is positioning sustainability as a continuing business priority rather than a once-a-year campaign. The company’s efforts reflect a broader commitment to responsible property management, with environmental stewardship woven into the everyday running of its buildings.
