The Philippine advertising industry took another historic step as the Ad Standards Council (ASC) hosted Patas na Patalastas 2025: The National Summit on Fair and Progressive Advertising Self-Regulation at the Rizal Ballroom of the Makati Shangri-La Hotel.

The event marks the second year of the countdown to the golden anniversary of advertising self-regulation, celebrating five decades of integrity, accountability, and consumer protection in Philippine advertising.

A legacy built on integrity
The industry’s self-regulatory framework was born in 1974 during Martial Law, when leaders from both government and private sectors united to safeguard truth and decency in advertising. What began as a bold experiment in ethical communication has become a global benchmark, inspiring generations of advertisers to uphold standards of fairness and social responsibility.

“Fifty years on, that same spirit drives us to adapt, evolve, and remain committed to advertising that not only sells but also serves,” said Robbie Aligada, ASC Executive Director.

Rising to new challenges
In today’s digital-first world, the advertising landscape faces unprecedented pressures—from the viral spread of misinformation to the unregulated influence of content creators and the ethical dilemmas of artificial intelligence.

“In an age where disinformation spreads faster than facts and children consume content without filters, the role of responsible advertising has never been more critical,” said Summit Chair Bobby Barreiro. “We are not just selling products—we are shaping culture, values, and even national identity.”

This year’s summit tackled urgent and timely themes:

  1. Truth-Telling and Truth-Selling – Confronting the rise of disinformation.
  2. Fame, Follows, and Fairness – Ensuring influencers play by ethical rules.
  3. Control + AI + Delete – Defining boundaries for artificial intelligence in advertising.
  4. Marketing with Care – Promoting healthier choices for future generations.
Renewing Purpose for the Future

For ASC Chair Golda Roldan, Patas na Patalastas 2025 is more than just a milestone. “This celebration is not only a tribute to our past but a renewal of our purpose. In this digital age, we must be more vigilant, more responsible, and more united than ever in championing advertising that truly serves the public good.”

Oversight Committee Chair Jun Nicdao echoed this call: “As communicators, we must stay close to the pulse of the people. Protecting consumers is not just our duty—it’s our mandate.”

A call to collective action
As the countdown to ASC’s 50th anniversary continues, the summit underscored one unifying message: that advertising must remain an instrument of truth, fairness, and progress in the Philippines.
