PNP Explores Gadget Banning and Task Force Readiness for School Safety

The Philippine National Police is evaluating best practices from neighboring countries, including restrictions on gadget usage and enhanced community security, to elevate safety standards in schools nationwide.

PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. stated that the national police force is prepared to join the Department of Education’s proposed Joint School Safety Task Force, which will conduct site-specific security audits across more than 49,000 public and private schools. Authorities plan to leverage barangay watchmen from over 42,000 villages as force multipliers, while the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group intensifies surveillance on online spaces that promote violence following recent shooting incidents in Tacloban City and South Cotabato.
