The Philippine Coast Guard suspended all sea travel in northern Quezon early Sunday as rough seas caused by Tropical Depression Luis threatened maritime safety.
The suspension covered routes under Coast Guard Station Northern Quezon, including voyages to and from the Polillo Group of Islands.
The PCG issued the order after Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 was raised over the area based on Pagasa’s 5 a.m. weather bulletin.
The affected jurisdiction includes the island towns of Polillo, Burdeos, Panukulan, Jomalig and Patnanungan.
Vessel operators were advised to take precautionary measures and closely monitor official weather updates while the suspension remained in effect.
Ships seeking temporary shelter may be allowed to take refuge after submitting a written request, provided they carry no passengers or cargo.
The Quezon disaster office also urged residents in areas highly vulnerable to flooding, landslides and other hazards to follow evacuation orders and instructions from local authorities.
As of 5 a.m., Luis was located 295 kilometers east of Daet, Camarines Norte, with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 70 kph. The sea travel suspension will remain until weather and maritime conditions improve.
