Payday Friday: Traffic jam ahead, MMDA says

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) shared that they are expecting heavier traffic on major thoroughfares from the afternoon until evening due to payday Friday.

“Actually sa umaga na ma-manage naman natin ng maayos yung traffic at ang problema ngayon nga is 28, katapusan—its payday Friday. So, we’re expecting so many people na lalabas at pupunta sa iba’t ibang lugar after ng kani-kanilang opisina o trabaho,” Atty. Victor Nunez, MMDA Traffic Enforcement Group director, said.

He added that heavy traffic is anticipated to start at 4:00 p.m. and will last until 9:00 p.m.

Major thoroughfares like EDSA, C5 Road, Commonwealth Avenue, and Quezon Avenue are predicted to experience the most congestion as commuters and motorists pass through.

“Sa kultura nating mga Pilipino especially kapag sweldo o katapusan, we find time to, you know, unwind; go out with friends, officemates, at minsan yung kasama pamilya… Alam natin na kapag payday Friday eh talagang lumalabas ‘yung mga tao… So expected na maraming sasakyan sa kalsada,” Nunez explained.

He urged motoe vehicle owners to check their vehicles and ensure that they are in good condition to prevent accidents.

“You have to plan your—kung ano man ang lakad ninyo. Plan it well. Make sure na magbigay kayo ng palugit knowing na medyo mabigat ang daloy ng trapiko mamaya paglabas,” he said.
