Pangasinan inflation rises to 3.3% in July

Pangasinan’s inflation rate rose slightly from 3.1% in June to 3.3% in July, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Pangasinan reported Friday.

PSA chief statistical specialist Edgar Norberte said the main drivers of the increase were restaurants and accommodation services (55.6% share), transport (32.3%), and education services (7.9%).

“Under restaurants and accommodation services with 8 percent inflation in July against 5.7 percent in June, restaurants, cafes, and the like are the main sources of higher inflation with 8.3 percent in July from 6 percent in June,” Norberte said.

Transport inflation eased to -0.5% from -2.9%, driven by higher fuel and lubricant prices, while education services rose to 4.6% from 2.1%, with tertiary education jumping from 0.2% to 7.3%.

Electricity costs also went up from 9.3% in June to 12.8% in July. Smaller increases were seen in alcoholic beverages and tobacco (1.0% to 1.4%), clothing and footwear (4.2% to 4.6%), and household maintenance (1.5% to 1.7%).

Meanwhile, declines were noted in food and non-alcoholic beverages (2.9% to 2.1%), health (0.4% to 0.2%), recreation and culture (3.4% to 3.3%), and personal care and miscellaneous goods (3.8% to 3.5%).
