Palace says only few seek Marcos resignation

A “very small group” wants President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. removed from office, Palace spokesperson Dave Gomez said Monday, linking calls for resignation to those potentially implicated in the ongoing flood control corruption investigation.

“Napakaliit ng grupo nitong gustong pababain ang Pangulo,” Gomez told DZMM. He added, “Hindi ba obvious ‘yung mga gustong magpapaba ay ‘yung mga tatamaan?”

Gomez dismissed former lawmaker Zaldy Co’s social media videos linking the President to the scandal.

“Sabi ni BBM, he will not even dignify the accusations dahil napakaraming loopholes nung script. Katawa-tawa…Hindi namin ito pinapansin,” he said.

Gomez also challenged Co to return to the Philippines and testify under oath regarding his claims.

The Palace highlighted that the President first exposed the flood control mess during his SONA and named 15 contractors involved in P100 billion worth of projects over three years.

Actions since then include launching the Sumbong sa Pangulo website, reshuffling the Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board, suspending licenses of implicated contractors, replacing Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan, seizing luxury vehicles of the Discaya couple, and creating the Independent Commission for Infrastructure.

Gomez said the next step is to jail flood control suspects before Christmas and recover misappropriated government funds.
