Malacañang on Tuesday commended House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos for voluntarily recusing himself from impeachment deliberations involving his father, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the young lawmaker’s decision reflected both integrity and respect for democratic processes.
“The act of Congressman Sandro Marcos inhibiting himself voluntarily from this issue, especially regarding the impeachment complaint filed against his own father – it is a hallmark of a statesman,” Castro said during a Palace briefing.
She added that the move demonstrates the congressman’s character and decency, calling it the proper course of action in a sensitive matter.
Castro emphasized that President Marcos did not influence his son’s decision, noting that the Chief Executive respects the autonomy of elected officials.
“Hindi po nakikialam ang Pangulo sa mga anumang aksiyon na gagawin ng kaniyang anak dahil ang alam po niya kailangan lamang pong tumupad ang kaniyang anak sa mandato (The President does not interfere in any actions taken by his son because he knows that his son simply needs to fulfill his mandate),” she said.
Sandro Marcos made the announcement after a second impeachment complaint was filed against the President, affirming his intent to uphold legal and ethical obligations as a public servant.
