TAGKAWAYAN, QUEZON – More than 500 residents of Tagkawayan, Quezon, benefited from the national government’s Benteng Bigas Meron (BBM) Na program, which aims to provide affordable rice to qualified sectors.
Under the initiative, each beneficiary was able to purchase 10 kilograms of rice at Php 20 per kilogram, or Php 200 for the entire allocation.
The program prioritizes vulnerable and low-income sectors, including senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), solo parents, minimum wage earners, farmers, and fisherfolk.
The initiative forms part of the government’s efforts to make rice more affordable and help ease the financial burden on Filipino households amid rising living expenses.
Through the subsidized rice program, qualified beneficiaries can purchase the staple food at a lower price, allowing them to allocate more of their household budgets to other essential needs.
The BBM Na program also seeks to strengthen food security by improving access to affordable rice, particularly among families facing economic challenges.
The distribution in Tagkawayan highlights the government’s continuing efforts to extend affordable food assistance to communities outside major urban centers.
