Over 26 barangays in Echague, Isabela remain isolated as the Gucab and Annafunan overflow bridges are impassable due to heavy rains from Typhoon Uwan.
Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Melissa Corpuz said water levels at both bridges have exceeded red warning markers, making them unsafe for vehicles and pedestrians.
Overflow bridges are low-lying structures that allow water to flow over the deck during heavy rainfall. While they reconnect communities in normal weather, they become inaccessible during intense downpours, cutting off several barangays.
Despite the isolation, no rescue operations were needed, as authorities enforced preemptive evacuations in flood-prone areas before the storm’s landfall.
As of Monday, around 1,000 families, or more than 3,000 individuals, remain in evacuation centers across Echague, while another 600 families are staying with relatives or neighbors.
The municipality remains without power, as electric posts toppled and transmission lines were damaged by strong winds. Restoration efforts are ongoing but may take several days.
In Santiago City, fallen trees and branches blocked streets, and signages, tarpaulins, and light structures were damaged. A gasoline station also sustained heavy damage when its ceiling collapsed during peak winds.
Local authorities have begun rapid damage and needs assessments to determine the full impact of the typhoon.
As of 5 a.m., 28 cities and municipalities remain under Signal No. 3, while nine are under Signal No. 2, according to PAGASA. Coastal areas are warned of rough to very rough seas.
Authorities continue to urge residents to stay alert, follow advisories, and avoid crossing flooded roads and bridges until conditions improve.
