MMDA: No major flooding in Metro Manila amid Uwan

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reported that no major flooding has occurred in Metro Manila despite the heavy rains brought by Typhoon Uwan (international name: Fung-wong).

The agency issued a statement to clarify the situation after videos showing submerged streets began circulating on social media. The MMDA confirmed that the footage was old and not reflective of the current conditions.

“No major flood incident in the National Capital Region (NCR) was reported in the Emergency Operation Center,” the MMDA announced on Monday, adding a cautionary note that “sharing wrong information could cause confusion and panic among the public.”

While the capital region was spared from significant flooding, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) maintained a Yellow Rainfall Warning for Metro Manila, which signifies that flooding is possible in flood-prone areas. The area also remained under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2.

State meteorologists also reported that Typhoon Uwan had weakened as it traversed Luzon’s landmass. The storm was moving west-northwest and packing maximum sustained winds of 150 kph with gusts reaching 230 kph.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) has confirmed a preliminary count of two deaths and two injuries resulting from the typhoon nationwide.
