Myanmar anti-narcotics police seized over one ton of methamphetamine, commonly known as “Ice,” in the eastern Shan state, according to a report published by the daily newspaper The Mirror on Saturday.
The operation, which occurred on November 16 in Loilem town, resulted in the seizure of 1.117 tons of the illicit substance. Police acted on a tip-off, leading them to search a vehicle where the drugs were discovered.
Authorities estimate the seized narcotics to be valued at over 15 billion kyats, approximately 7.14 million U.S. dollars.
Two suspects were immediately arrested at the scene and have been charged under Myanmar’s existing laws. Officials state that further investigations are ongoing.
The report also noted that two other suspects involved in arranging the transportation of the drugs—which were slated to move from Mongyai township in Shan state to Yangon—remain at large. (Xinhua)
