Brighter nights come to 12 Tondo barangays as new streetlights switch on

For residents and motorists along the stretch from Road 10 to Sta. Maria, Moriones in Tondo, new streetlights are bringing better visibility after sundown—and supporting efforts to make their community safer.

One Meralco Foundation (OMF), the social responsibility arm of Manila Electric Company (Meralco), partnered with the Manila city government on a streetlighting project serving 12 barangays.

OMF provided 24 steel lamp posts, while Meralco handled their installation, metering, and energization. The project aims to improve visibility on major roads used by residents and passing motorists.

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, Vice Mayor Chi Atienza, and OMF President Jeffrey Tarayao led the lighting ceremony on October 15.

The initiative puts a practical community need at the center of public-private cooperation. By bringing lighting to these streets, OMF, Meralco, and the city government are helping create better conditions for people traveling through Tondo after dark.
