In support of the government’s call for the acceleration in the shift to clean, affordable and secure energy in the country, Northern Samar governor Harris CM Ongchuan has been quietly taking steps to convince local government units (LGUs) in the province to push for clean energy initiatives.
In this effort, the Nortehanon governor has joined policymakers, national and local government officials, industry leaders, energy experts and civil society organizations in affirming a collective commitment to promote sustainable energy.
Because of his active perticipation and support, Ongchuan was given recognition recently with the Sustainable Energy Award for the Local Government Unit Category conferred by the Department of Energy (DoE) at the Shangri-La Hotel, Makati City.

Even before his assumption in office as governor he has gone out of his way to encourage other LGUs to take bold and collaborative steps in advancing clean energy initiatives, emphasizing that sustainable development is both a responsibility and an opportunity to improve the quality of life of communities.
The Sustainable Energy Award is a flagship recognition of the DoE recognizing the country’s champions of renewable Energy initiatives.
It has been the vision of President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. for the Philippines to take concrete action in navigating the opportunities and challenges of the countryโs energy transition.
According to energy secretary Sharon Garin, โby shifting to renewable energy (RE) sources such as solar, wind and hydropower, (government) can aim for a more stable and affordable power supply and a more sustainable (and greener) future for all Filipinos.โ
