The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said 12 deaths had been reported as of 10 a.m. Monday from the combined effects of the southwest monsoon and tropical cyclones Luis and Maymay.
OCD Assistant Secretary Laurence Mina said eight people were still missing while 11 others had been injured, with casualties recorded in Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region and Calabarzon.
Three of the reported deaths came from Rizal, another three from Batangas and two from Benguet. Authorities were still determining the locations of the remaining four fatalities.
Mina said the deaths were linked to incidents involving landslides, rockslides, fallen trees, electrocution and drowning.
The figures remained subject to validation as disaster response teams continued checking reports from affected communities and conducting search and rescue operations.
Luis made landfall over Isabela on Aug. 3 before weakening into a low pressure area, while Maymay crossed Ilocos Sur on Aug. 6 and dissipated the following day.
The southwest monsoon, however, continued to bring rain over large parts of Luzon and sections of the Visayas on Monday.
