Nueva Vizcaya has been placed under a state of calamity following widespread destruction caused by Super Typhoon Uwan (international name: Fung-Wong).
The storm left more than P3 billion in combined agriculture and infrastructure losses in the Cagayan Valley region.
In Nueva Vizcaya alone, agricultural and infrastructure damage was initially assessed at P307.5 million, according to provincial reports.
The provincial board on Monday approved Resolution No. 2025-5998, formally declaring the state of calamity.
The declaration allows provincial and municipal governments to accelerate emergency response, recovery programs, and rehabilitation works.
The measure, sponsored by Board Member Eunice Galima-Gambol, was unanimously approved by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
It cited recommendations from the Nueva Vizcaya Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, as well as national directives including NDRRMC Memorandum Order No. 60 and Presidential Proclamation No. 1077.
Gov. Jose Gambito welcomed the declaration, calling it a necessary move despite the existing nationwide state of calamity.
Gambito said the local declaration provides legal authority to utilize provincial and municipal calamity funds and enforce price controls.
He also commended the provincial board for its swift action in the face of an urgent situation brought by Uwan’s impact.
With the declaration in effect, local governments can now expedite repairs, access Quick Response Funds, and request support from national agencies and nearby localities.
The resolution emphasized that the move aims to bolster ongoing relief efforts, stabilize essential services, and sustain long-term rehabilitation across affected communities in Nueva Vizcaya.
