The Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Caraga Region has completed the release of cash assistance to all beneficiaries of Project LAWA at BINHI across the region.
The agency said 6,195 beneficiaries received compensation after completing 20 days of work under the community-based program.
Each participant was given Php 8,700, with recipients coming from Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur.
The project also funded community initiatives designed to improve food security and water access in participating areas.
In Barangay Mabini in Cagdianao, Dinagat Islands, the rehabilitation of the village’s potable water system restored access to clean running water for residents.
Another completed project in Barangay Roxas, Mainit, Surigao del Norte established a community vegetable garden that now provides fresh produce for household consumption and additional income for participating families.
The DSWD said the projects were carried out through collaboration among beneficiaries, local government units and the agency to support sustainable community development.
Although the cash-for-work component has ended, the DSWD encouraged beneficiaries to continue maintaining the water systems, gardens and other completed projects so communities can continue benefiting from them in the long term.
