Josh Rock and Daryl Gurney wins 2025 BetVictor World Cup Champions at the Eissporthalle in Germany against two-time champion Jonny Clayton and Gerwyn Price of Wales.
Even with Clayton hitting 180 on the opening match, Gurney still finished the leg to get the opening point for Northern Ireland. In the first 10 legs of the Final, the two teams went head-to-head, tying 4-4 on the 8th leg. Wales got the win on the 9th leg, having their first lead of the match. After losing the 12th leg of the Final, the Northern Irish heated up and scored four straight legs to reach the match point, with Gurney making the finishing touches.
Eventually, the match point pressure is evident as Rock misses the first match dart; Gurney misses three match darts on the 18th leg. Clayton then cleans up the 70 points in that leg to force a sudden death, tying the score at 9-9. On the deciding leg of the Final, both Gurney and Price hit a 180 as the crowd went wild, making the match one of the greatest World Cup Finals ever. The Final had a dramatic ending as Gurney wraps up the match with an 11-darter to win the Sudden Death.
Before reaching the Final, the Northern Ireland team defeated the Republic of Ireland’s William O’Connor and Keane Barry in the Quarter-Finals 8-5. Moving on to the next round, Rock and Gurney later faced the representatives of the host country, Germany, and beat them eight legs to one in the Semi-Finals.
Winners of the World Cup, Northern Ireland received £80,000, gold medals, and the BetVictor World Cup of Darts trophy, while runners-up, Wales received £50,000 and silver medals.
Despite Clayton and Price being the most successful pairing in the competition—winning 2 titles in the PDC World Cup, new-look pairing Rock and Gurney still managed to handle business in the Final.
