A nine-year-old student tragically drowned after being swept away by floodwater in Barangay Managa, Bansalan, Davao del Sur. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon while the child was playing along a canal, as reported by King Pandia on Super Radyo dzBB on Sunday.
The Bansalan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office confirmed that the victim’s body was recovered 200 meters from the school. According to police investigations, a 12-year-old student witnessed the victim playing with another nine-year-old when the canal suddenly surged, sweeping them away.
The 12-year-old attempted to help but was also caught in the floodwater. Local residents collaborated to rescue the students, and the two surviving victims are currently receiving medical treatment.
