Jobseekers in Negros Oriental will have access to at least 1,625 employment opportunities on Sept. 14 as the province holds a job fair alongside the distribution of government assistance to hundreds of beneficiaries.
The available positions are almost evenly divided between domestic and international employment, with 846 local vacancies and 779 overseas openings, according to provincial Public Employment Service Office manager Alein Serion Balsamo. More vacancies may be added before the event.
The Handog ng Pangulo Job Fair will also serve as a venue for several labor and migrant-worker services, allowing applicants and beneficiaries to access government programs while exploring employment opportunities.
Among those scheduled to receive assistance are 300 beneficiaries of the Special Program for the Employment of Students. Each is entitled to Php 12,782.80 for 20 days of work at a daily rate of Php 639.14.
Under the cost-sharing arrangement, the Negros Oriental provincial government covers 60 percent of the wages while the Department of Labor and Employment shoulders 40 percent. Funding for the 300 beneficiaries totals more than Php 3.8 million.
Another 450 beneficiaries are scheduled to receive payments under DOLE’s Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers program during the event.
The Department of Migrant Workers will meanwhile assist prospective and current overseas Filipino workers through employment services, an OFW help desk and programs addressing illegal recruitment and trafficking. Assistance under the agency’s Aksyon Fund and ELPOR programs will also be distributed.
The provincial government is organizing the Sept. 14 event with DOLE, DMW, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and other government agencies.
