NBI eyes cancellation of Leandro Leviste’s passport, travel authority

MANILA – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is studying the possible cancellation of Leandro Leviste’s passport and travel authority following the issuance of a warrant of arrest against him.

The NBI said it would coordinate with the Department of Justice (DOJ), House of Representatives, Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Bureau of Immigration (BI), and Philippine Center on Transnational Crime (PCTC) to determine the appropriate legal measures.

Among the options being considered is seeking an Interpol Red Notice to help locate Leviste and facilitate international law enforcement coordination.

Leviste is reportedly in France or Germany, prompting the NBI to coordinate with relevant government agencies to verify his whereabouts and determine the next steps in implementing the arrest warrant.

The bureau is also examining possible measures involving his travel documents, subject to applicable laws and procedures.

An Interpol Red Notice is a request to law enforcement agencies worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a wanted person pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal action. It is not an international arrest warrant.

The NBI said coordination with concerned agencies would help determine the appropriate course of action as authorities seek to enforce the warrant through established legal channels.
