Lady Bulldogs secure 3rd win in SSL Unity Cup

MANILA – National University sustained its winning run in the Shakey’s Super League (SSL) Unity Cup, beating Arellano University, 25-12, 25-16, 25-14, at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum on Saturday.

Chams Maaya scored 10 points on six attacks, two aces, and two blocks in leading the Lady Bulldogs to their third win in Pool A.

“Nagpo-focus kami sa sarili namin kung paano pa namin mai-improve ang skills namin, kasi every game, every set, every point ay kailangang mag-improve kami (We are focusing on ourselves and how we can further improve our skills, because we need to improve with every game, every set, and every point),” Maaya said after the one-hour and 25-minute match.

Celine Marsh had eight points, followed by Arah Panique with seven and Denesse Daylisan with six, as NU moved closer to a playoff berth.

After trailing 7-11 in the second set, the Lady Bulldogs scored nine straight points capped by Daylisan’s attack to take command and keep the momentum en route to victory.

Samantha Maranan scored six points while Aleah Alipan and Keisha Abitria added five each for the Lady Chiefs, who absorbed their second loss in three outings.

Action resumes on Sunday, with the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA facing San Beda University at 1 p.m.

Adamson University and University of the East battle at 3 p.m. while Ateneo de Manila University and Emilio Aguinaldo College clash at 5 p.m. (PNA)
