Two Chinese nationals were resisted by National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) operatives during a raid in Paranaque City, one of whom attacked NBI agents. ABS-CBN News reported.
One of the Chinese nationals allegedly punched the arresting agents during the operation.
Some of the complainants were former workers in a scam hub, and claimed that they needed to pay P35,000 to recover their passports and return to China.
“To think that this is a foreign national, and not a Filipino, why would he fight? Our lawyer was punched in the face. So that I decided to subdue him,” said Noel Bocaling, assistant director of the NBI Intelligence Service.
The NBI agents quickly managed to subdue and handcuff the suspects.
He said that after escaping the scam hub, the victim wanted to leave the Philippines immediately, but he needed his passport.
Now the two suspects are charged with robbery, extortion, direct assault on a person in authority, and violation of the Philippine Passport Act of 1996. And detained at the NBI Detention Facility in Muntinlupa City
Three NBI agents were hurt in the encounter, while the passport of the victim has been returned.
