Exclusive: Quezon City Science High School on track for June school year return

Quezon City Science High School is among the public schools supporting the return of the school calendar to its original June-to-March cycle. The shift is part of the Department of Education’s gradual transition to pre-pandemic scheduling, which many educators say would help restore structure and improve student well-being.

In an interview aired on Tambayan ng Barangay segment on DWAN 1206 AM, Quezon City Science High School principal George Emanuel F. Martin shared his insights on how the pandemic disrupted the academic flow. He explained that the delayed start of classes—moved to September during the height of the COVID-19 crisis—led to scheduling issues, misalignment with holidays and challenges in lesson pacing.

Martin emphasized that the return to a June opening allows for more consistent academic planning and better mental health for students. The traditional schedule also provides a more natural flow for breaks and summer activities, giving students and teachers alike time to recharge.

The principal added that this transition isn’t just a logistical change, but a symbolic move toward normalcy in education. The shift will also help reestablish learning habits and routines that were affected by the uncertainties of remote learning and pandemic-related changes.

The Department of Education plans to fully return to the June school opening by the 2025–2026 academic year.
