MRT-3 installs walkthrough metal detectors in all stations

The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) announced Monday that all 13 of its stations are now fully equipped with advanced walkthrough metal detectors, marking the completion of a system-wide security upgrade.

The rollout follows a pilot phase that began on January 7 at the North Avenue, Quezon Avenue, and GMA-Kamuning stations. As of today, the equipment is operational across the entire rail line running along EDSA.

According to MRT-3 management, the new scanners are designed to strengthen security protocols while maintaining a smooth flow of commuters.

“The goal is to further strengthen security within the stations and ensure the safety of every passenger before they reach the platform,” the MRT-3 said in a statement.

The newly deployed units feature technology capable of pinpointing the exact location of prohibited items and identifying the type of contraband.

The system also includes automated features to log entry times, count passenger volume, and capture photos to assist security personnel in monitoring potential threats.

In preparation for the full deployment, MRT-3 security guards, officers, and station supervisors underwent specialized training to operate the new hardware.

The upgrade is part of the rail line’s ongoing efforts to modernize facilities and provide a more secure environment for the hundreds of thousands of daily passengers.
