Meralco supercharges Bulacan with major power upgrade

In a major step toward boosting energy reliability in Bulacan, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco), under the leadership of business tycoon Manuel V. Pangilinan, has completed a key infrastructure upgrade at its Duhat Substation in Bocaue.

Meralco retired a 42-year-old power transformer and replaced it with a modern, high-capacity unit—a 300 MVA, 220 kV–115 kV power transformer equipped with an on-load tap changer. This state-of-the-art upgrade is expected to significantly enhance power stability and improve service quality across the fast-developing towns of Sta. Maria, Bocaue, Balagtas, Meycauayan, Obando, and Marilao.

“This upgrade is not just about replacing aging infrastructure,” a Meralco representative said. “It’s about preparing Bulacan for the future—supporting growing communities and the increasing demands of residential, commercial, and industrial customers.”

The newly installed transformer will ensure reliable electricity supply for high-demand establishments such as the Philippine Arena, Hightension Steel, SM City Marilao, Joni Villanueva General Hospital, Valenzuela City Emergency Hospital, and various local government offices in the area.

Meralco’s move reflects its broader strategy of proactive facility upgrades, aimed at keeping up with the rapid growth in customer demand and providing uninterrupted, high-quality electric service.

“This is part of our long-term commitment to sustainable development and nation-building through energy,” the spokesperson added. “As Bulacan continues to rise as a key economic hub, we’re making sure the energy backbone is ready to support it.”

Through initiatives like this, Meralco reinforces its role not just as a power distributor, but as a vital partner in community progress—lighting the way for a more connected and energized future.
