Meralco is looking for power suppliers to cover 900 megawatts (MW) of baseload demand beginning in 2031, opening a competitive bidding process for electricity it expects to need in the next decade.
The Manila Electric Company launched the selection process after the Department of Energy issued a Certificate of Conformity for the terms of reference governing the proposed power supply agreements.
Power generation companies have until October 15, 2026, to submit expressions of interest. A pre-bid conference is set for November 6, followed by the bid submission deadline on December 9.
The proposed 15-year agreement calls for delivery in two stages: 600 MW starting February 26, 2031, and another 300 MW starting February 26, 2032. Any resulting agreement will require approval from the Energy Regulatory Commission.
The bidding gives Meralco a way to secure long-term supply ahead of rising electricity demand, while allowing generators to compete for a substantial share of its future baseload requirements.
