As families prepare to visit cemeteries and reunite with loved ones for Undas, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) is keeping its crews on round-the-clock standby—and reminding customers that a safe holiday starts before they leave home.
The Manuel V. Pangilinan-led power distributor said its personnel will be ready to respond to electricity service concerns across its franchise area during the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.
“Meralco will be ready to respond to any power-related concerns of our customers to help ensure safe and reliable electricity service while families spend time to honor and remember their departed loved ones,” said Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga.
Meralco Business Centers will be temporarily closed on November 1 and 2, but customers can continue to seek assistance through the company’s digital channels, official social media accounts and hotline.
For those traveling during the holiday break, Meralco urged a quick electrical safety check before locking up. Switch off and unplug appliances that will not be used, particularly when leaving home for an extended period.
Customers should also avoid “octopus connections,” or plugging multiple devices into a single outlet, and keep wires, connectors and electrical equipment dry. Cords should never run beneath rugs or carpets, where their insulation may be damaged, while flammable materials should be kept away from outdoor lighting and other heat sources.
Beyond holiday preparations, Meralco said its facilities, systems and response teams are ready for the possible effects of El Niño, including potentially higher electricity demand.
“We expect electricity demand to rise as temperatures increase during El Niño. To help mitigate the impact on power consumption and electricity bills, we encourage customers to adopt simple energy conservation habits and use electricity more efficiently,” Zaldarriaga said.
Customers needing assistance may use the My Meralco app, message Meralco’s official Facebook page or X account @meralco, or call 16211.
