Meralco achieves another Quill glory after bagging nine communication awards

Fresh from being named Company of the Year at the 2025 Philippine Quill Awards, Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has been named as a finalist for the coveted top distinction this year after securing nine Excellence and Merit trophies at the 22nd Philippine Quill Awards.

The Manuel V. Pangilinan-led power distributor emerged as one of the ceremony’s major winners, with its communications programs recognized across customer service, corporate social responsibility, research and analytics, animal welfare advocacy, public safety, digital transformation and innovation.

The latest haul underscores how communications has evolved into a strategic tool for Meralco—not merely to promote corporate initiatives, but to influence customer behavior, strengthen public engagement and support programs with wider social impact.

Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga said the recognition reflects the increasingly important role of strategic communications in advancing the company’s broader objectives.

“This recognition highlights the critical role of communications in driving programs and initiatives that help shape the energy landscape and contribute to nation-building,” Zaldarriaga said.

“This serves both as an honor and motivation for us at Meralco to continue driving communication efforts that advance public good,” he added.

One Meralco Foundation (OMF), the company’s social development arm, was likewise recognized for communications initiatives designed to mobilize communities and inspire meaningful action.

OMF President Jeffrey O. Tarayao said the latest awards validate the foundation’s focus on communication anchored on purpose and measurable social impact.

“Our recognition at the 22nd Philippine Quill Awards affirms that excellence in communication is essential to advancing real, substantive good,” Tarayao said.

“For One Meralco Foundation, it validates our practice of purpose-driven initiatives—it stirs hearts, compels action, and lifts the communities we serve,” he added.

Meralco’s nomination anew for Company of the Year comes after it captured the same distinction in the previous awards cycle, strengthening its position not only as one of the country’s biggest energy companies but also as a consistent performer in corporate communications.

Organized by the International Association of Business Communicators Philippines, the Philippine Quill Awards is regarded as one of the country’s most prestigious recognition programs for business communication.

It honors organizations and professionals that demonstrate how strategic and effective communication can help achieve business objectives while creating positive impact on stakeholders and society.

With another nine trophies under its belt and a fresh shot at the Quill’s highest corporate honor, Meralco is seeking to prove that in today’s fast-changing energy sector, communicating well can be just as critical as keeping the lights on.
