The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported minor strombolian activity at Mayon Volcano in Bicol early Sunday morning.

Phivolcs said the brief eruption, marked by intermittent bursts of magma and gas, occurred at the summit crater from 5:20 a.m. to 5:28 a.m., lasting eight minutes.

A strombolian eruption, according to the United States National Park Service, features firework-like explosions of lava and moderate gas emissions.

State volcanologists noted that Mayon has now experienced 41 consecutive days of effusive eruption, with lava steadily flowing from the crater.

These effusive flows continue to generate pyroclastic density currents, locally known as uson, as well as frequent rockfalls on the slopes.

Alert Level 3 remains in effect, signaling intensified unrest at the volcano.

Phivolcs reminded residents that entry into the six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone is strictly prohibited to ensure public safety.
