President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will spend the holiday season working on the review of the 2026 national budget, Malacañang said Tuesday.

Presidential Communications Office Secretary Dave Gomez confirmed the President’s plans when asked about his holiday schedule.

“The President will be spending the holidays working,” Gomez said in a message to reporters.

Gomez added that Marcos is “already mobilizing his team to facilitate the immediate review of all amounts and corresponding provisions agreed in the bi-cam and trace the changes made from the originally submitted National Expenditure Program (NEP).”

The Palace said the review aims to ensure that public funds are properly allocated and used effectively.

Congress has yet to ratify the proposed P6.793-trillion 2026 budget, prompting adjustments in the legislative calendar.

Both the House of Representatives and the Senate moved the resumption of plenary sessions to December 29 to finalize deliberations.

With this schedule, Malacañang will have only December 30 and December 31 to sign the budget into law.

If the budget is not enacted on time, the country would operate under a reenacted budget for 2026, as also suggested by some senators when there’s a deadlock surrounding the Department of Public Works and Highway’s (DPWH) budget.

Malacañang emphasized that Marcos remains focused on reviewing the NEP thoroughly to ensure funds are directed toward programs that benefit all Filipinos.
