The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Tuesday submitted the computer storage device and documents of the late former Undersecretary Maria Catalina Cabral to the Office of the Ombudsman.

The turnover followed a subpoena duces tecum issued by the Ombudsman on Monday directing the DPWH to produce all electronic gadgets assigned to Cabral.

The measure aims to determine whether any information on the devices had been altered or tampered with.

The DPWH said the documents turned over cover Cabral’s files from the past 10 years.

Undersecretaries Nicasio Conti, Arthur Bisnar, Ricardo Bernabe III, and Charles Calima Jr. led the handover of the computer and documents.

The department added that it “will cooperate with the authorities and relevant agencies handling the investigation.”

Cabral died on December 18 after falling into a deep ravine at Purok Maramal, Sitio Camp 5 in Barangay Camp 4, Tuba, Benguet.

Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said evidence collected so far by investigators suggests the possibility that Cabral died by suicide.

Cabral had been involved in the government’s probe into the nationwide flood control scandal.

Authorities are now reviewing the surrendered devices and documents to aid ongoing investigations related to her work.
