President Ferdinand Marcos skipped two scheduled engagements on Tuesday as he monitored the rally near the People Power Monument in Quezon City.

Marcos was expected to attend the inauguration of the MV Nilad, a state-of-the-art marine cleanup vessel, at South Harbor in Manila.

Transportation Acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez delivered the President’s speech during the inauguration ceremony instead.

Presidential Communications Office Acting Secretary Dave Gomez also confirmed that Marcos would no longer attend the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines presidential luncheon at Makati Shangri-La.

Gomez said the President was closely monitoring developments related to the EDSA rally, although his scheduled activities at Malacañan Palace would proceed.

Reports said the protest near the People Power Monument caused heavy traffic in the area.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said Marcos was being regularly briefed on the developing situation along EDSA.
