LTFRB summons 34 PUV operators over missed trips

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board has summoned 34 public utility vehicle operators after their units allegedly failed to serve commuters and were instead seen at rally sites in Quezon City.

The LTFRB, through the Department of Transportation, issued show cause orders covering operators of buses and UV Express units.

The agency said it respects the right of individuals to join protest actions and express grievances.

However, it said public transport operators also carry obligations to the riding public under their permits.

The LTFRB said the failure of the units to ply their authorized routes on Tuesday affected commuters who depend on public transportation.

In the show cause orders, the agency said the operators’ decision not to operate reduced the availability of public transport services.

The LTFRB said this was a violation of Paragraph 3 of Memorandum Circular No. 2011-004.

The 34 operators were directed to explain in notarized writing why their permits should not be suspended or cancelled, with the hearing set on July 9.
