President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday said the Independent Commission (ICI) is “coming toward the end,” as only one commissioner remains in the body.

In a brief interview in Mandaluyong City, Marcos said the next steps for the ICI will depend on how much work remains for the commission.

“It depends on how much work they still have left. If their work is finished, we will see what they can do next,” he said.

He added that most investigations have been completed, with perhaps “one or two loose ends” remaining.

Marcos stressed that no decision has been made regarding the appointment of new commissioners.

“If needed, then we will [appoint them], but if the work is done and all information has been submitted to the DOJ and Ombudsman, then the focus of the investigation will now shift to the DOJ and Ombudsman,” he explained.

Marcos’ remarks suggest the commission may soon conclude its work, with oversight and enforcement continuing under the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Ombudsman.
