Marcos gives newly promoted Coast Guard brass a marching order: Lead with integrity

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. administers the oath to 21 newly promoted Philippine Coast Guard flag officers, including one vice admiral, two rear admirals and 18 commodores, as he calls on them to lead with integrity and uphold their responsibility to the Filipino people.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. gave 21 newly promoted Philippine Coast Guard flag officers a clear directive Tuesday: set the example, protect the institution’s integrity and prepare the next generation of PCG leaders.

The President issued the call as one vice admiral, two rear admirals and 18 commodores took their oath following their promotions.

Marcos said their higher ranks come with greater responsibilities as the Coast Guard handles missions ranging from maritime security in the West Philippine Sea to disaster response and law enforcement.

“So, to our newly promoted flag officers, lead by example. Uphold the highest standards of integrity. Prepare the next generation of Coast Guard leaders,” Marcos said.

He also urged the officers to embrace modernization and strengthen partnerships, noting that maritime challenges increasingly require cooperation among different government institutions.

The President highlighted the PCG’s work in patrolling the West Philippine Sea and supporting maritime resupply missions, describing some of its assignments as difficult and dangerous.

Beyond territorial waters, Marcos cited the Coast Guard’s role in vessel inspections, passenger safety, environmental protection and operations against illegal fishing and smuggling.

“Ang bawat paglalayag at bawat pagbabantay ay para sa sambayanang Pilipino,” Marcos concluded.
