A viral video showing a passenger bus overtaking along a blind curve has prompted the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board to summon the operator and demand an explanation over the potentially dangerous maneuver.
The LTFRB issued a show cause order against Victor Liner after the video showed one of its buses entering the opposite lane while overtaking vehicles on a curved section of a national highway.
The maneuver forced a motorcycle rider to move toward the roadside to avoid the oncoming bus, according to the agency.
Acting LTFRB Chairman Greg Pua Jr. said the operator must explain why its Certificate of Public Convenience should not be suspended or cancelled over the incident.
“Roads are not the place of bullying of big motor vehicles to smaller ones,” Pua said, warning that public utility vehicle operators could face sanctions for reckless behavior on the road.
The LTFRB said the driver’s actions may constitute a failure to provide safe and convenient public transportation. The bus company is also facing an administrative case for allegedly employing a reckless driver.
The case is set for hearing on Sept. 10.
Pua said the incident highlights the need for discipline and road courtesy among public utility vehicle drivers, stressing that preventable road crashes often stem from unsafe driving behavior.
