President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has established an inter-agency committee to enhance and promote sports tourism in the Philippines.
Through Administrative Order No. 38, Marcos created the National Sports Tourism Inter-Agency Committee (NST-IAC) to “harmonize, coordinate, and oversee the development, promotion, and implementation of sports tourism initiatives.”
The committee will handle the country’s bidding and hosting of international sporting events, as well as the organization of major domestic sports tourism activities.
The Philippine Sports Commission will chair the committee, with the Department of Tourism as vice-chair. Members include the Department of the Interior and Local Government, Department of Budget and Management, Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation, and two private sector representatives from the tourism industry.
The NST-IAC may also invite other agencies, local government units, civil society groups, and academic institutions as observers or resource persons.
The order was signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on October 29.
