President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday called on Filipino Muslims in the country and abroad to embrace compassion, discipline, and solidarity ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.

He described the period as a time for prayer and reflection that brings believers closer to the values of mercy, justice, and service.

In a message shared by the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) on Facebook, Marcos said Ramadan is an opportunity to practice kindness, understanding, and empowerment throughout the sacred month and beyond.

Marcos also emphasized helping the vulnerable, noting that Ramadan should inspire believers to show compassion, especially toward those less fortunate in their communities.

NCMF Chair Secretary Sabuddin Abdurahim extended greetings to Muslim Filipinos nationwide and abroad, emphasizing patience, devotion, and the promise of forgiveness for those who fast faithfully.

The commission confirmed that Ramadan will begin on February 19, based on moon sighting activities coordinated with the Bangsamoro Darul Ifta, Ulama groups, and the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Muslims are expected to fast from dawn to sunset, engage in increased worship, reflection, and charity during the holy month, which concludes with Eid al-Fitr, set to be declared a nationwide holiday under Republic Act No. 9177.
