Meta Platforms announced that Messenger.com will stop functioning as a separate messaging service starting April 2026.

The company also confirmed that the standalone Messenger desktop app will be retired, with all web chats redirected to facebook.com/messages.

Meta said the decision aims to simplify messaging as more users increasingly rely on mobile devices for communication.

The Messenger mobile application will remain fully operational, including for users without a Facebook account, ensuring continuity of conversations.

Users were assured that past chat histories could still be accessed or restored across devices using a PIN.

Meta explained that consolidating platforms allows for faster updates, better security, and more efficient service management.
