President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. appoints Presidential Peace Adviser Mel Senen Sarmiento as the new chair of the government’s Peace Implementing Panel for the Bangsamoro peace process.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has named Presidential Peace Adviser Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento as the new head of the government’s Peace Implementing Panel (PIP) overseeing the Bangsamoro peace process.
Malacañang announced Sarmiento’s appointment on Wednesday, making him the sixth government representative to lead the panel in engagements with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) for the implementation of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro.
Sarmiento took over the position previously held by retired military general Cesar Yano, who resigned as PIP chair in February.
The PIP is responsible for monitoring and advancing the government’s commitments under the peace agreement with the MILF, which seeks to strengthen peace and development efforts in the Bangsamoro region.
The appointment came as the Marcos administration continued efforts to sustain the implementation of the landmark agreement.
