Police arrested a 34-year-old protection agent inside a resto bar in Las Piñas City after he allegedly claimed to be an active Philippine Army member while carrying a .45-caliber pistol.
The arrest took place at around 1:20 a.m. on August 24 in Barangay Pulang Lupa Dos during an Oplan Bakal inspection conducted by the National Capital Region Police Office.
Police said the man disclosed that he had a firearm inside a black belt bag. He presented a license to own and possess firearms, firearm registration and a permit to carry firearms outside residence.
Authorities, however, said he failed to present an official Philippine Army identification card despite allegedly claiming that he was an active Army personnel.
Recovered from him were a Thunder Bolt .45-caliber pistol, five magazines, 49 rounds of ammunition and the belt bag used to carry the firearm.
The suspect was brought to the Las Piñas District Hospital for physical and medical examination before being placed under police custody.
Police said complaints for usurpation of authority and violation of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, were being prepared.
The case will be referred to the Las Piñas City Prosecutor’s Office for appropriate proceedings.
