Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said authorities would immediately deport any Israeli citizen found in the country amid an investigation into alleged Israeli involvement in a private residential community in Johor.

Anwar said government agencies were looking into the claims and would take firm action if investigators confirmed them.

He stressed that Malaysia did not recognize Israel and maintained strict restrictions on the entry of Israeli passport holders.

Under existing rules, Israeli citizens are generally prohibited from entering Malaysia unless they secure special government approval.

The Home Ministry opened an investigation after the Johor state government requested a federal inquiry into allegations surrounding Network School, a startup community operating in the southern state.

The probe centered on claims that an Israeli individual had played a role in the community’s activities.

In a separate development, the Immigration Department inspected 266 foreigners staying at an international community in Forest City.

Authorities said all those checked had presented valid immigration documents and were legally staying in Malaysia.
