Malacañang had declared May 27, 2026, a regular holiday across the Philippines in observance of Eid’l Adha, one of the most significant celebrations in Islam.
The declaration was contained in Proclamation No. 1264, which was released by the Office of the Executive Secretary on Thursday.
Under the proclamation, the observance of Eid’l Adha was recognized as one of the two most important feasts in the Islamic faith, commemorating sacrifice and devotion.
The holiday fell on the 10th day of Zhul Hijja, the 12th month in the Islamic calendar, in line with Republic Act No. 9849, which set the celebration as a regular holiday with a movable date.
Authorities said the exact date of the observance depended on the Islamic lunar calendar, which varies each year.
The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos had recommended May 27 as the appropriate date for this year’s observance based on the 1447 Hijrah Islamic Lunar Calendar.
Malacañang adopted the recommendation, formalizing the holiday through the issuance of the proclamation.
Eid’l Adha is widely observed by Muslim communities in the country and around the world, marked by prayers, feasts, and acts of charity.
