Magnitude 4.6 quake jolts Ilocos Norte town — Phivolcs

A magnitude 4.6 earthquake struck Ilocos Norte early Saturday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The quake hit at 3:37 a.m. with its epicenter located west of Marcos town. It was tectonic in origin and measured at a shallow depth of 4 kilometers.

It was initially reported at magnitude 4.5 at a depth of 10 km.

Phivolcs said Intensity IV was felt in Pinili and Marcos, Ilocos Norte.

Instrumental intensities were recorded in the following areas:

  • Intensity IV: Batac City, Ilocos Norte
  • Intensity III: Laoag City, San Nicolas, Solsona (Ilocos Norte)
  • Intensity II: Sinait, Ilocos Sur

Phivolcs said no aftershocks or damage were expected from the tremor.
