Luka Dončić
Luka Dončić delivered a masterclass on Tuesday night, etching his name alongside some of the greatest players in Los Angeles Lakers history. The star guard racked up 30 points and a Lakers career-high 15 assists in a 136-115 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans.
With this performance, Dončić became only the fourth player in franchise history to reach those statistical marks in a single game, joining the elite company of LeBron James, Magic Johnson, and Jerry West.
From the opening tip, Dončić was in control, setting the tone with three consecutive three-pointers in the first quarter. His chemistry with co-star LeBron James was on full display, as James contributed 34 points on 10-of-18 shooting, eight rebounds and six assists.
Meanwhile, center Jaxson Hayes turned in one of his best performances in a Lakers uniform, finishing with 19 points on a flawless 8-for-8 shooting and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Dončić came within two points of matching his Lakers career-high scoring total, but Los Angeles eased up in the final period with the game firmly in hand. The Pelicans had managed to erase a 15-point deficit in the first half, but the Lakers pulled away convincingly in the second, capitalizing on New Orleans’ short-handed lineup.
The victory extended the Lakers’ winning streak to seven games, improved their record to 39-21, and solidified their position in second place in the Western Conference standings. Over their last 20 contests, the team has won 17 times, including a 6-2 record since Dončić joined the lineup.
Los Angeles now awaits a challenging stretch, with matchups against the New York Knicks, Boston Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks, and defending champion Denver Nuggets looming in the next five games—most of which will be played on the road.
This upcoming slate will test the Lakers’ championship aspirations as they continue their push toward the postseason.
