The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will strictly enforce a ban on electric tricycles along major roads in Metro Manila starting Friday, Jan. 2.
Key thoroughfares covered by the restriction include Epifanio de los Santos Avenue, C-5 Road, Roxas Boulevard, and the Quirino Avenue to Magallanes–South Luzon Expressway stretch.
The LTO said the policy follows traffic regulations issued by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.
LTO chief Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao said major highways are built for faster and heavier vehicles, making them unsafe for e-trikes.
He said mixing slow-moving and lightweight vehicles with high-speed traffic creates safety risks for all road users.
The agency said it will deploy traffic enforcers to inform motorists and ensure proper implementation of the rules.
Violators may face fines and possible vehicle impoundment, while the LTO works with local governments to identify safer routes for e-trike operations.
