The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) held a meeting with representatives of EV Taxi Corporation on Wednesday to discuss the role of electric vehicles in the transport sector. The talks come amid ongoing fuel price increases caused by the Middle East crisis.

EV Taxi President Frankie Ang led the delegation, emphasizing the potential of electric vehicle services as an alternative to traditional gas-powered transport. The discussion highlighted how EVs can provide a practical option during periods of fluctuating fuel costs.

Officials and operators also discussed operational considerations, including driver training programs and data collection requirements for EV operators.

LTFRB Chairman Vigor Mendoza noted the agency’s continued efforts to support stakeholders adopting electric mobility. Policies and programs are being implemented to facilitate the integration of EVs into public transport networks.

The dialogue aligns with government directives encouraging sustainable and environmentally friendly transport solutions nationwide. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has emphasized the importance of promoting green alternatives in the transport sector.

Department of Transportation (DOT) Secretary Giovanni Lopez supervises LTFRB programs and works with industry partners to ensure smooth EV deployment.

Participants also reviewed sector challenges, such as infrastructure, maintenance, and adoption incentives. The discussions aim to provide a framework for the responsible expansion of electric mobility.

Mendoza said LTFRB will continue coordinating with EV operators to monitor implementation and ensure that commuters and stakeholders benefit from cleaner and cost-efficient transport options.
