A bus firm operating along the EDSA Busway has been sidelined after regulators slapped a 30-day suspension on 18 of its units following a crash in Quezon City.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) moved against Baclaran Metrolink Bus as part of a broader push to tighten road safety enforcement under directives from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
LTFRB chairperson Vigor Mendoza said the company and its driver were ordered to explain the incident, as authorities opened a probe into possible lapses that led to the collision.
The accident took place near the Kamuning Bus Station, where the bus struck a concrete barrier while traversing the southbound lane during the afternoon rush.
Investigators said the driver appeared to have miscalculated the vehicle’s clearance while checking a side mirror, resulting in the impact that briefly disrupted traffic flow in the area.
The crash left the bus conductor pinned between the vehicle and the barrier, requiring time for rescue, while several barriers were damaged.
Regulators said they would examine both the driver’s fitness and the unit’s condition, with the driver set to undergo drug testing and safety training.
The LTFRB scheduled a hearing on May 28 and warned that failure to comply with directives, including the surrender of the vehicle’s plate, would result in a Php 5,000 fine.
