Commuters planning to travel via rail on the last day of the year should head to the stations early, as the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 2 and Metro Rail Transit (MRT) Line 3 have announced shortened operating hours for New Year’s Eve.
In separate advisories released on Monday, December 29, the rail managements confirmed that operations on December 31, 2025, will end earlier than usual to allow personnel to observe the holiday.
LRT-2 Schedule (December 31)
For the Purple Line, which connects Antipolo to Recto, the last commercial trips are scheduled as follows:
• From Antipolo Station: 7:00 PM
• From Recto Station: 7:30 PM
The LRT-2 will maintain its usual opening time of 5:00 AM on New Year’s Eve. Regular operations will resume on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2026.
MRT-3 Schedule (December 31)
Commuters along EDSA will also face an early cutoff for the MRT-3:
• From North Avenue Station: 7:45 PM
• From Taft Avenue Station: 8:23 PM
On December 31, the first trips for the MRT-3 will start at 4:30 AM from North Avenue and 5:05 AM from Taft Avenue.
New Year’s Day Resumption
Rail services will continue on January 1, 2026, though with adjusted holiday hours. The MRT-3 has announced that its first New Year’s Day trips will begin at 6:30 AM for both ends of the line, with the final trains departing at 10:30 PM (North Avenue) and 11:09 PM (Taft Avenue).
Transport authorities are urging the public to plan their New Year’s Eve travels accordingly to avoid being stranded as the city prepares for the countdown to 2026.
